Variations of cartridge filters, and how to characterize them (KAF, KDC, KGF, KSF)?

KAF: Top in cast aluminium with lugs for mounting; available in many diameters. Selected sizes can be equipped with a venturi nozzle for more efficient cleaning. KAF has a closed bottom and rubber gasket for tight mounting and minimized emission. The gasket can be placed on the clean-air or dust side, allowing the cartridge to be mounted above or below the cell plate. KDC: DIN “closed” cartridge filter with a closed bottom and large filtration surface, suitable for systems requiring standardized endcaps and a sealed bottom solution. KGF: With internal thread at the top so it can easily be mounted into a matching threaded connection; supplied with a standard thread that fits in most filter plants. KSF: Cartridge filters with a moulded polyurethane top (soft or hard). Available in round and oval versions, as well as top loader and bottom loader. Often a good alternative to replacing a filter bag with the same diameter when a larger filtration area is needed. konfAir moulds the top in-house and can send a 3D-printed prototype for approval before production. The soft moulded top also functions as the gasket, while the hard version is mounted with or supplied with a gasket. The gasket can be placed on the clean-air or dust side.

1. What is a cartridge filter, and when to choose one?

A cartridge filter is a cylindrical filter element with a large filtration surface in a compact form. It is used for air filtration of dust and gas across industries and is developed/produced in dialogue with you to fit the system and operating conditions — with a focus on high filtration efficiency, energy efficiency and environmental considerations. A cartridge filter is typically chosen when a larger filter area is required due to higher air volumes and low dust load.

3. How do I ensure tight mounting, low pressure drop and efficient cleaning?

Choose a cartridge filter with the correct top/mounting type for the system (lugs/DIN/thread) and use the right gasket on the appropriate side (above/below the tube sheet) to avoid bypass and emission. On KAF, the closed bottom and rubber gasket ensure tightness, and selected sizes can be equipped with a venturi nozzle for more efficient cleaning. Choosing the correct construction helps to keep the differential pressure low and ensures stable operation.
Note: KAF is available with different gasket profiles to match the system’s sealing requirements.
